Will my Council Tax go up to pay for the improvements to Corby town centre?
No. EvolutionCorby is being funded by Land Securities plc, a major stakeholder and manager of the town centre.
What will happen to the existing retailers in Corporation Street when all the new shops open?
Corporation Street will remain the town centre’s principal retail thoroughfare. Indeed, its importance is likely to increase, as it is the shortest route from the Civic Hub to the new railway station. Part of our proposals include plans to improve this vital artery by removing the ironwork and canopies and relocating all services, street furniture, street lamps and trees to a central reservation. Traffic may be reintroduced along this street in the evening to improve the night time economy at a future date.
Will we have to pay to park?
We have recently introduced parking charges at the multi-storey car park to deter long term parking and to ensure that there are spaces available for shoppers. Charges have been set to modest levels and the intention is that the same regime will apply to the new car parks. Having a small income from parking also allows us to improve their environment and security.
Where will we park when the multi-storey car park is demolished to make way for EvolutionCorby?
New car parking arrangements will be brought into operation before the existing parking is removed.
What leisure facilities will there be?
We are currently looking at the possibility of providing a community or sports hall within the scheme. Additional phases may include a multi-screen cinema and/or a bowling alley.
What new retailers will be coming to Corby?
At this stage we don’t know, but we have been able to attract some very high profile brands to Willow Place. It’s too early to talk about specific names, as we don’t yet have planning permission for the scheme.
Will we be getting a Marks and Spencer store in the town centre?
We have made provision for a department store in our plans. Without planning permission it is too early to confirm which retailer will occupy this store.
Why will it take so long to get started?
Our plans have to be approved by the Borough Council and by the Regional Government’s advisers. We need to secure the entire site for redevelopment and, where appropriate, relocate existing occupiers.
How environmentally friendly are your proposals?
Our proposals will comply with the latest environmental legislation. We intend to make the scheme as future-proof as possible.
Where will all the apartments be located?
Many of the new shops will have residential accommodation above. There will also be other pockets of new housing within the town centre. There will be no high rise development.
Will the apartments be affordable for local people?
The apartments will be realistically priced for the local market.
